The figures for Palencia

Drive distance

22 miles by road from St. Johns County, about 30 minutes. Not a straight-line radius.

Service access

We plan the way in before we start: whether a panel-ready column can come forward on its rails, whether the floor in front of it needs protecting, and where the shut-off and the isolating breaker actually are. That is decided at booking, not on the day.

Salt air

Inland. Corrosion is not the leading hypothesis in this ZIP, so we look elsewhere first.

Housing stock

Post-war to modern. Cabinet openings and circuits generally suit current built-in dimensions, so access is rarely the constraint.

Storms

Around 68 thunderstorm days a year across the region, which is a control-board problem rather than a weather problem.

Diagnostic · 32095 $80 Flat, the same in every ZIP we cover, and credited toward the repair when you approve the work.

Drive time

22 miles · 30 minutes. Everything we publish is measured on the road, and the whole service area is capped at 40 road miles.

St. Johns County

Equipment reaching its first real decision

Palencia is 32095, half an hour south of us, and the useful thing to know about servicing it is the age of the equipment rather than anything about the ground it sits on. Kitchens fitted when the community was built are now at the point where the first significant repair arrives: an ice maker assembly, a steam generator, a blower motor, a set of oven hinges.

That changes the conversation more than the fault does. A first major repair on an otherwise sound built-in is almost always worth doing, because the alternative is not a new appliance but a new appliance plus cabinetry work plus whatever the supply behind it needs. We put both numbers in writing and let you decide, and we say plainly when a part is discontinued and the decision has already been made for us.

The housing here is a specific age

Palencia is a planned community north of St. Augustine, developed from the early 2000s onward, laid out around a golf course and running east toward the Tolomato marsh. That gives it a kitchen profile quite unlike either the 1920s houses in Riverside or the brand-new construction in Nocatee: appliances that are now on their second or third generation, installed into cabinetry that was purpose-built for built-in equipment and is still in good order.

What that produces is a clean fault list. Wall oven doors that no longer pull square, because hinges and springs have carried a heavy door for years. Bake and broil elements at the end of their service life. Convection fan motors that rattle for months before they stop. Thermostats and sensors drifting far enough that a setpoint and the actual cavity temperature no longer agree, which is a measurement anyone can take and a cheap part to replace. Ice maker assemblies in freezer columns, which lead the list here as they do everywhere. And ventilation run capacitors, which imitate a dead blower motor convincingly and cost a fraction of one.

Access is usually the easy part here

Kitchens in Palencia were designed around built-in equipment rather than adapted to it, and that shows up in the service call. Column refrigeration comes forward on its rails without a fight, wall ovens have real clearance behind them, water shut-offs are where a technician can reach them, and the circuits were sized for what they are feeding.

It sounds like a small thing. It is not. A large share of the repairs we quote elsewhere carry an access surcharge in time — protecting a floor, unloading doors, releasing an anti-tip fixing, working around joinery that was finished over a shut-off. Where the installation was done properly the first time, the visit is shorter and the estimate is smaller, and the faults we find are genuine appliance faults rather than consequences of how something was fitted.

Drive time

Palencia is about 22 miles and roughly 30 minutes by road from our base in Fruit Cove, generally down US 1. That is drive distance, not a radius drawn on a map. Every figure on this site is measured the way you would actually travel it.

Booking

The visit is a flat $80 diagnostic, credited toward the repair when you approve the work, with a written estimate before any part is ordered or fitted. Genuine OEM parts through the BSH distribution channel shared with Bosch and Gaggenau, 90 days on labour, 365 days on parts. Appointments Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 4pm.

What we are called out for in Palencia

Meridian Appliance Works opens built-in kitchen appliances in Palencia, and that is the whole list: Thermador wall ovens, steam ovens and speed ovens, professional ranges, gas rangetops, induction cooktops, refrigerator, freezer and wine columns, dishwashers, and the ventilation hung over the cooking surface.

We do not service heating, air conditioning or ductwork. No furnaces, no heat pumps, no air handlers, no mini-splits, no duct cleaning and no duct replacement — not as a sideline, and not handed to a partner firm. A house that will not warm up or will not cool down is a licensed HVAC contractor's job, and we say so on the telephone instead of booking a visit we could not finish.

The two trades share some vocabulary and nothing else. A range hood has a duct above it. A refrigeration column has a sealed system, a condenser and a condenser fan, and the ambient of the room around it — air-conditioned or not — is what that condenser has to reject heat into. All of that is appliance work, and it is where EPA Section 608 applies: it permits us to open a sealed refrigeration circuit, not to touch the building's own heating and cooling plant.

Parts, lead times and the second visit

Almost every built-in repair is two visits, and we say so at booking rather than discovering it on the day. The first visit is diagnosis: reproduce the fault, measure rather than assume, and read the model and serial from the data plate, because the serial decides which variant of a component actually fits an appliance that has been in production for years.

Parts are ordered against a written estimate through the BSH distribution channel that also serves the sibling brands. Common wear items — door hinges and springs, gaskets, thermistors, fan motors, capacitors — usually move quickly. Control boards, inverter boards, sealed-system components and anything panel-specific take longer, and glass and door assemblies for older equipment are the ones most likely to be discontinued. Where a part is no longer made, we say so instead of quoting a repair we cannot complete, and the conversation becomes repair-versus-replace on real numbers.

What does a repair cost in Palencia?

Between $80 and $2,420, depending which component is at fault. Before the appliance is opened a band is the honest answer; a single number is a guess in a quote's clothing.

Typical parts-and-labour ranges, with the flat diagnostic fee.

Refrigeration column sealed system $920–$2,420

How a visit is charged · Worth repairing, or not?

Asked before a visit to Palencia

How far is Palencia, and is there a travel charge?

22 miles by road from Fruit Cove, St. Johns County, about 30 minutes, in St. Johns County. No mileage surcharge inside the 40-mile road radius; beyond it we decline the call rather than adding a charge to it.

What fails most in Palencia kitchens?

Palencia is inland and mostly post-war to modern, so corrosion is not the leading hypothesis. What recurs is how built-in equipment was fitted at the end of a construction schedule — clearance, vent path and condenser access.

Do you do heating or air conditioning work in Palencia?

No, and we never have. Meridian Appliance Works repairs built-in kitchen appliances only — ovens, cooktops, rangetops, ranges, refrigeration and wine columns, dishwashers and cooker hoods. A furnace, a heat pump, an air handler or a duct run in Palencia needs a licensed HVAC contractor; that is a different trade with a different licence, and we will tell you so rather than take the booking.

What should I have ready when I book from Palencia?

The model and serial off the data plate rather than the receipt; whether a panel-ready column can come forward on its rails and what the floor in front of it is; where the water shut-off and the isolating breaker are; and any outage or trip in the weeks before the fault.

Recent visits around Palencia

One visit each, in the words we were given, unflattering ones included.

  • Our hood blower had become very loud on the higher settings. He replaced the blower wheel and balanced it. Much quieter, though the lowest setting still hums more than it did when it was new.

  • The cavity drains properly now and the smell has gone with it. He cleared the drain path and fitted a new trap seal. I would have liked more warning that the appliance had to come out of its housing first.

    Tabitha R.2026-04-22

  • The door seal was letting a plume out at the top corner. He fitted a new gasket and adjusted the catch. Much better, although it still wants a firm push to latch on the left side.
